One question at a time.

From local laboratory workflows to connected health systems: answers to the questions teams ask when exploring DataToCare.

01 / Understand where DataToCare fits.

Platform & LIMS

01

What is DataToCare?

DataToCare is a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) connecting instruments, laboratory workflows and health programmes. It brings patient, sample and test information together with reporting and operational oversight. Explore the LIMS features.

02

Which use cases and instruments does it support?

The platform supports multiple diagnostic programmes and instrument families. Exact assays, models, drivers and interfaces are confirmed for each deployment. View the instrument overview, or ask about your setup.

03

Can DataToCare send test orders to instruments?

Yes. Bidirectional communication means DataToCare sends a test order to a supported instrument and receives the result back. This includes GeneXpert Dx, Abbott m2000 and PlusLife through configured interfaces. Other routes collect results through APIs or files. Compare instrument workflows.

04

How does DataToCare fit alongside an existing LIMS?

DataToCare has evolved from diagnostic connectivity into a LIMS covering patients, samples, test orders, results, inventory, equipment and quality workflows. It can also exchange information with an existing LIS, LIMS or EMR through configured interfaces. See interoperability details.

05

How does DataToCare work with DHIS2?

DHIS2 Tracker exchange is bidirectional: DataToCare retrieves an existing patient, or creates and registers a new patient in DHIS2, then returns results linked to the patient, programme and organisation. Aggregate reporting is a separate scheduled export from DataToCare Web to DHIS2 Data Sets. Explore both Tracker scenarios.

Data & connectivity

06

Can DataToCare connect to other health systems?

Yes. Configured integrations include DHIS2, e-TB Manager and Nadis, alongside other national platforms and laboratory systems. API, file or database interfaces depend on the receiving system. ASTM and HL7 support is specific to the instrument and driver, rather than universal. Review the integration options.

07

How are data protected and governed?

The technical specification describes role-based access, audit trails and encryption at rest and in transit. Data ownership, governance and retention remain with the hosting country or institution. Hosting and access arrangements are agreed for the deployment. Read the technical specification.

08

How do users access the platform?

Desktop supports local laboratory work on a laboratory computer. Web provides browser-based laboratory management, dashboards and reporting. Mobile supports field requests, results and referrals. Light is a Windows background service for instrument data capture and forwarding. Meet the applications.

09

Does DataToCare work without reliable internet?

Desktop and Mobile can retain work locally and synchronize later. Internet or configured SMS transmission supports different connectivity settings. Light forwards instrument data over the internet after interruptions; facility Web instances can buffer forwarding to a national instance. Compare deployment modes.

03 / Plan a deployment around your programme.

Getting started

10

Can DataToCare be customized?

Data capture forms, validation workflows, indicators, dashboards and reports can be configured for the country, laboratory or health programme. Discuss your requirements and training needs with the team. Tell us about your workflow.

11

How long does implementation take?

An existing configuration can be rolled out more quickly than a new programme. Assessment, instrument interfaces, configuration, infrastructure and training determine the schedule. The team can scope these steps with you before agreeing a deployment plan. Discuss an implementation.

12

What does implementation cost, and how is DataToCare licensed?

Costs depend on the network, interfaces, infrastructure, training and support required. The v6.0 specification describes a royalty-free, perpetual licence for non-commercial use, with source access on request for non-commercial entities. Contracted implementation, training and support services are scoped separately. Read the specification or request a quotation.

13

Where is DataToCare used?

DataToCare has been deployed in 20 countries, particularly in Africa and South-East Asia. The current reach figures are 1,067 laboratories, 1,217,274 tests and 1,198,878 patients. Explore deployments and reported impact.
